The School of Dental Medicine offers two programs of study in dental hygiene. The two-year associate of science degree program provides the educational experiences to prepare our graduates for a career in dental hygiene.
The Bachelor of Science completion degree in dental hygiene is offered through the College of General Studies and the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Only graduates of accredited dental hygiene programs are eligible to complete the bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene.

The University of Pittsburgh’s Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (Online Degree Completion) enables licensed dental hygienists with an associate degree to complete their bachelor’s degree in as few as 33 credits, at your own pace, from wherever you live. Beginning Fall 2026, the program will transition to a fully online, asynchronous format, making high-quality dental hygiene education accessible to more students nationwide.
